“Are you a bystander, a cause or a solution? What happens when the unknown becomes constant and the hyper awareness becomes truly horrible. The stories of four explores the cloudy line between memory, premonition and action through a state of being that does not allow clarity but does allow us to be haunted by the simplest things or the most complex. A number, a noise, or the occasional spark of humanity linking us to our brothers and sisters in solidarity or torture, whether overt or complacent…”
Immediately gripped by the fantastic writing that goes with C2’s music I just had to check out their unique style of dark electronic. Diving straight into their latest release, Quadrants: The Stories of Four, I was not even a little bit disappointed. In their own words Quadrants was “Forged in the solar powered fires of a makeshift garden shed studio, the project centres on a journey into an AM radio nightmare of a man haunted by the noise, the number 4 and four dead sirens.” and with 20+ years of experience in underground electronic music you know its going to be good.
Quadrants: The Stories of Four is made up of 16 tracks and a photo essay graphic novel booklet. Blending music and photographic art to create an idea, a story, a feeling of what the creator is trying to share. A haunting tale of what it is to be human. Though it is absolutely impossible for me to pin a genre on to this album/booklet it is a creative masterpiece from New Zealand’s deep south. If you are a fan of electronic music or industrial it is well worth checking the album out, though it has much more impact, if you include the booklet. As a fan of industrial music I can easily say that this album is world class music.
Not for music lovers alone however. If you are a photographer or just a fan of photography, check out their photo booklet, just look around their website to see some of the great images being produced. Truly the album/booklet has been an artistic creation. Have a taste, this one, is well worth buying.
