On Saturday 11th March Dead End Derby’s Living Dead Rollers took on Timaru’s Derby Dames in a nail-biting, edge of your seat performance. While both teams fought hard to the bitter end, the Living Dead Rollers, the top B team in New Zealand, took out the win 194-175.
Following an unbeaten season in 2016, Living Dead Rollers were determined to keep their top spot but the Timaru Derby Dames were no pushovers. There were a lot of hard hits given by both sides and plenty of skater pileups giving the crowd a great source of entertainment.
Living Dead Rollers Captain, Michelle Morrow (Gorey Taylor) says;
“We are so proud of our fresh skaters who have never played an interleague bout before: Dayna Adair (Dazy Daggerz), Ceara Nolan (Kalashnikitty) and Emily Syme (Holtzmann). It was also great to welcome back Tash O’Connor (T-Wrex) and Jo Bensemann (SchizJophrenic). This gave us a great balance of experience and new talent to keep everyone on their toes.”
After the bout, Living Dead Rollers Best Jammer – Gorey Taylor, Best Blocker – Dee Generate, Most Valued Player – Teeny Tiny as awarded by Timaru Derby Dames. Meanwhile, Timaru Derby Dames Best Jammer went to Pigeon Defective and Best Blocker to Mick Chicken as chosen by LDR. Benchie awards went to Manuka Bazooka and Hustlepuff.
The next bout for this team is April 8th against Pirate City Rollers B from Auckland who are currently placed 18th in New Zealand.
